That’s what I told people when I left full-time ministry in October of 2017. That year was my twentieth year in ministry, twenty years filled with a combination of part-time and full-time work with both churches and non-profit organizations. But by 2017, I was ready to be done with all of it.
For all of my lifetime, we have turned almost exclusively to our clergy for answers. No matter the size of a congregation or even denominational or non-denominational, it seems we often consider the opinion of pastors to be the only voices that matter.
That may be changing and that’s a good thing.
It’s a real gift from God to discover something unexpected and I have found that part-time ministry has connected me with what God is doing in my church and in my community in ways I would have never imagined when I was a full-time pastor.
